Tips for Safeguarding Your Gift Cards
I received a gift card, now what?
Tips for Safeguarding your gift cards:
- Upon receipt, check the balance of your gift card to verify the amount you’ve received.
- Store your gift cards securely. Basically, treat them like cash.
- Never share gift card numbers or PINs with people you don’t know.
- Never share account login details for apps or wallets that you may use to store your gift cards and only use apps/wallets that require multi-factor authentication (MFA). Examples of MFA include face or fingerprint ID, or an authentication code sent via text or email.
- Branded gift cards are only redeemable at that brand’s store or website/app, never provide gift card information if asked for it under threat or if solicited from an unusual or unexpected source.
- Sometimes gift-givers miss the mark! If you’re looking to trade or resell your gift card via an online exchange site, here are a few tips: understand that you’ll be selling for less than face value, ensure the site offers guarantees to the purchaser and seller, and review how and when payout happens.
