RGCA leadership has recognized the various concerns of retailers in regards to a relatively new evolution in the industry – third-party resellers and gift card exchanges. As technology continues to allow for newer and more efficient ways of delivering stored value opportunities, those same technologies associated with this new sector of the industry also creates new challenges in terms of fraud. To address the concerns of our members, RGCA has crafted the attached statement and is collaborating with various third-party resellers to provide best practice solutions. The Statement was sent to representatives and stakeholders at third party reseller partners to create an opportunity for honest and collaborative discussions about how we can make the entire process beneficial for all parties involved.
Gift cards are one of the most requested gifts in the U.S. Yet despite their popularity and versatility, you may sometimes find yourself with well-intentioned gift cards that go unused – like when you receive a gift card for a store where you don’t frequently shop. This has resulted in the creation of gift card exchange services online and in retailers across the country. We encourage you to educate yourself on gift card exchanges before selecting one, as the services are still new and not all offer equal experiences to shoppers.
